INTRODUCTION

On June 8, 1948, Samal became a district municipality of Davao Province by virtue of EO# 151 dates 08 July 1948, singed by then, President ELPEDIO QUIRINO.

Later, the Island municipality was divided into 3 municipalities: Samal, Babak and Kaputian which were then remerged last January 30, 1998 and became a component city of Davao Del Norte throught the mandate of RA 8471, signed by former President FIDEL V RAMOS and was ratified on March 7, 1998. The city is classified as 3rd class city at present.

Relatively, aside from itd awesome coral garden, we may not see a floral garden in this Island but it is very much expected that Island Garden City of Samal is definitely a garden of opportunities, specially that this Island is an earmark by the Department of Tourism as one of the tourist destinations in Mindanao.
